A few days ago, the Modi-led Government invited Bollywood celebs like Karan Johar, Kabir Khan and many more for a discussion about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Mumbai’s Grand Hyatt Hotel. The dinner was to be hosted by Union Minister of Railway and Commerce minister Piyush Goyal along with National Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda. But things unfortunately didn’t go as planned.
Apparently, the attendees of the pro-CAA dinner included CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, Ritesh Sidhwani, Bushan Kumar, Ranveer Shorey, Kunal Kohli, Abhishek Kapoor, Urvashi Rautela and Shailesh Lodha. In addition to that, Anu Malik, Kailash Kher, Roop Kumar Rathod and Shaan also showed up for the dinner. And for some reason, following the dinner, many of these got extremely woke and started spewing about the many advantages of CAA, especially Shaan.
But here’s the real result of the whole meeting i.e. a video titled ‘Artists support Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019’ posted by all the official handles of BJP
“It is an inclusive act and it has been done across the world, and we aren’t the first to give citizenship to persecuted minorities.”
And you can also hear Tanisha Mukerji saying that the CAA is an inclusive gesture and a means to give and not take.
However, the thing that literally the lot of them (and I literally mean the lot of them) are failing to mention, intentionally or unintentionally, is the damaging nature of the CAA when it is combined with the National Register of Citizens. CAA on its own is religiously biased but not entirely harmful. But when it is mixed with the NRC (which is going to be implemented in the future while Narendra Modi and these folks keeps saying that it hasn’t been implemented yet and Amit Shah keeps saying that it will be implemented nation-wide), it puts one particular religious minority in peril i.e. Muslims, whether they’re Indians or refugees from neighbouring countries.
The timing of this video is kind of ironic because currently a major chunk of Bollywood is standing up against the implementation of the CAA and NRC. And not just that. They’re standing beside those who’ve been treated with violence for protesting the Government’s moves. This chunk consists of names like Deepika Padukone, Sayani Gupta, Swara Bhasker, Richa Chadha, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Javed Akhtar, Alia Bhatt, Anubhav Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Vishal Bhardwaj, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose, Sonam Kapoor, Ali Fazal, Saurabh Shukla, Sudhir Mishra, Swanand Kirkire, Neeraj Ghaywan and more. So, the ones speaking for the Government simply have to pay attention to them and understand the gravity of the situation before starring in videos like these.
